The Beatrix has a rubberized coating over an aluminum barrel, which changes how it feels far more than how it looks. The soft finish grips the hand instead of sliding in it, and it does not go slick the way bare polished metal does.
That matters for pens people actually write with for a while, like clipboard work, patient intake, or a classroom, more than for a pen that gets pocketed and forgotten. Rubberized finishes also take a light-colored imprint well against a dark barrel, which is worth knowing if your logo is white or a pale tint.
